bpha is working in partnership with five housebuilders to provide 300 affordable homes in the first phase of Northstowe, a town being built north of Cambridge.
When completed in around 2024, Northstowe will be home to more than 24,000 people and will be the largest new settlement in the UK since Milton Keynes. Along with a guided busway, shops and schools, it is being developed in line with NHS England’s ‘Healthy new town’ principles, with cycleways, green spaces and several community recreation facilities.
About 1,500 homes are being built in the first phase, ranging from one bedroom flats to four bedroom family houses, with 180 available for affordable rent and 120 for shared ownership. Affordable rent levels will be set according to the Local Housing Allowance rate, ensuring affordability to those in housing need.
