Cambridge residents create new book of poetry and artwork

Posted on 06 March 2020

"Here I am" is a new book of poetry and artwork created by the residents of Corona House, CHS Group’s service for women who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. It details the experiences of women who currently live at, or have previously lived at, Corona House, as well as members of the Corona House Community.

Corona House provides accommodation and support for six women aged 18-64. Women receive help to overcome personal challenges, to become independent and receive advice and guidance to get into training, education and employment. The Corona House Community is a wider network of women in need who visit the service on a regular basis for social and lunch events, advice sessions, creative workshops and trips out.

Caroline Mackechnie-Jarvis, Manager at Corona House said: “Poetry and art are invaluable platforms for our women to express their feelings and process whatever it is they are going through, and we run weekly workshops for our residents and the Corona House Community.”

The book will be launched at the Cambridge branch of Waterstones on 6 March, where some of the women will read poetry and original artwork will be displayed. Copies can be purchased for £7 at the launch and throughout the weekend, in celebration of International Women’s Day on 8 March. The book will then be available from the Museum of Cambridge, Castle Hill. All proceeds from the book sales will be used to help fund Corona House.
